I understand that the thickness of the replacement drive takes up alot of space where there could be airflow, but does installing a drive of this kind require any case modification?

XP does not allow page files to be created on removable drives. This applies to USB flash drives also. Although the dialogue appears to allow you to set up a page file on a removable device, that setting is ignored by XP (presumably because it sets up the page file BEFORE it sets up the USB-atached removable devices)

My Sony UX180P appears to have developed a Hard Disk fault. It locks up and starts making that dreaded click click clicking sound. Does anyone know if i can install windows on a USB hard drive and boot from that. Obviously I don't want to rush out and buy a new toshiba 1.8" hard dirk before doing some testing to check whether it is truely the HD that is faulty or perhaps another hardware fault. I am trying to install windows using an external cd drive onto an external HD just now without any success..
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Much has been discussed about Identity Theft, user ID's and Passwords stolen or hacked, credit cards being used without the owners knowledge and so on. Now there is a safe way of protecting your passwords and identity online from being copied, stolen and hacked by keyboard trojans, using your biometric fingerprint and face recognition, and even voice, to log on to web sites. By simply scanning your finger or face or voice you can log on to a web site, log on to your computer, and even encrypt files and folders. No more worrying about who might hack into your online accounts or even your email. No more remembering passwords or using the same passwords on many sites. This is an exciting new innovation from myBiodentity and they have about fourteen products that are enabled with biometrics including email encryption, password manager, virtual disk, and many more. You can read more at http://www.mybiodentity.com

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I just bought a Bamboo Fun and updated the driver, etc. and the "start inking" was not even an option in Office 2007's Word, Outlook's e-mails, etc. and I tried several blogs, Wacom site, MS site and they were all crap. I looked at yours (which made the most sense of them all) and it worked PERFECT! Very good directions too.
THANK YOU. Now I can check midterms electronically.

Unlike ReadyBoost, which allows you to remove the flash drive at any time without causing any errors, this procedure allows Windows XP to page out *active program data* to the flash drive, which means that sudden removal of the flash drive will likely cause a system crash or BSOD.
Furthermore, flash media have a fixed number of write cycles that ReadyBoost attempts to take into consideration. XP will not take this into consideration, and the heavy disk activity from paging operations may wear out the flash media sooner.

Hi.
I had mine open to upgrade the HD to a 60gb. But didn't strip the mobo out completely, so don't know... is the CPU soldered in ?
I'm wondering about the possibility of swapping in a U2500 duo.
